The Northern Ireland Delivery & Innovation Division (NI DID) awarded the GC Data Security Award for BT Assure Files – part of the BTGS Security portfolio
Now in its 13th year, the GC Awards – rewarding excellence in public sector IT (previously known as the GC Awards for innovation) are the original and most prestigious awards for using technology to raise the game in public services. They were established to highlight the excellent work done by public servants across the UK, and to disseminate the projects' contributions to best practice. The Transformational Government campaign and the Treasury's demands for efficiency savings have ensured there is still a strong momentum to get more out of IT for public services, and organisations are eager to show that they have risen to the challenge.
The Data Security Award is new for 2009. The award covers projects that have provided notable advances in the cause of protecting public data. The security of sensitive data is now one of the prime issues facing the public sector. This award will go to the project with a proven success in the identification and containment of risks around intrusion, loss and the mismanagement of data
Assure Files – part of the BT Managed Secure Documents portfolio which comes under BT Global Services Business Continuity, Security & Governance Practice – was awarded the Data Security Award for the Northern Ireland Delivery and Innovation Division (NI DID) at a gala ceremony in London on the 20th of May 2009.
The Delivery and Innovation Division (DID) within the Department of Finance and Personnel was established in 2007 to provide a range of specialist business services to the Northern Ireland Civil Service. It provides strategic direction and leadership on the application of modern technology, and is tasked with transforming public service delivery through innovation.
BT Ireland has a long-term business relationship with the Northern Ireland Civil Service and provides it with a wide range of ICT services, including infrastructure services, application development and support, the provision and support of laptop and desktop computers, as well as data centre hosting services. Provided by BT in association with Logica and Echoworx, Secure Files uses standards-based technologies, such as Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and X.509 certificates to assure data security, data integrity, and user authentication.
Ray Stanton, Global Head, Business Continuity, Security & Governance, BT Global Services, said: ‘As a leading Managed Security Services provider, BT has a wealth of experience and capability in helping organisations all over the globe protect and secure their sensitive data. Data security in the public sector is particularly challenging, so we are delighted that the NI DID’s deployment of our AssureFiles service has been recognised as the leading example of data security within the UK public sector.’ |
