    Strategic Sourcing

Making your core business the priority

Staying competitive requires more and more of your attention.

Your networked IT is a key enabler of business performance and will help your organisation to improve operational predictability, manage risk, increase speed to market, improve productivity, innovate and take advantage of globalisation.

But, managing mission critical IT in house prevents you from focusing sufficiently on your core business. That is why most businesses choose to outsource or out-task their networked IT infrastructure, applications and business processes.

BT Global Services is able to meet your network and related IT requirements and will work with you and your leadership teams to help re-structure your business and unlock hidden value using our 'Consolidate, Converge and Extend process.

Sourcing strategically as a catalyst for growth

On our own or working with partners, we are able to deliver comprehensive Managed Network and IT Services globally under a consistent service level agreement (SLA) to support your business.

High impact innovation and transformation are an integral part of an out-tasked or outsourced arrangement and in May 2009, we were recognised as a leader in innovation by The Bathwick Group in their report called Innovation in Outsourcing.

Sharing Unilever's goals for business innovation

In one of the largest global sourcing contracts in UK corporate history, Unilever contracted BT Global Services to manage and develop its entire global communications infrastructure. Worth €750 million over ten years, and supporting over 179,000 people in some 100 countries, the solution also included the transfer of people and assets from Unilever to BT Global Services.

To help Unilever release capital for planned business expansion, BT Global Services has reduced the number of suppliers that Unilever has to manage from four hundred to one. After rationalising and upgrading its infrastructure, Unilever can now rapidly deploy new technologies across its entire global network. Savings were in excess of £200m and this was used to fund its business development programme and to concentrate on core business.

    Reducing complexity improves performance

Organisations are often hamstrung by a complex patchwork of legacy applications, infrastructure and networks that prevent them from doing things better. By out-tasking or outsourcing to BT Global Services, we can help your business to do things better, for example, by enabling greater collaboration with "partners", improving productivity of your workforce and time to market.

Leading the way on Innovation through outsourcing

Out-tasking or outsourcing to BT Global Services can help you deliver business transformation and innovation as our aim is to help your IT to better support the business. We do not just promote technology for technology's sake. Our experience across the board in Networked IT Infrastructure, related Applications through to Business Process outsourcing and our vast sector and industry specific knowledge means we implement best practices which support the growth of your organisation.

BT Global Services has earned a top ranking in an independent report on Innovation in Outsourcing by The Bathwick Group. The report praises Engage - BT Global Services customer innovation programme, launched to address our customers' key business challenges. In it, The Bathwick Groups says: "Its focus, processes and investment have helped to push it towards the fore of the pack. In addition, its good business and industry understanding have enabled it to score well with IT buyers." The report added: "There is no doubting that BTs' research and development muscle and its global reach to innovation partners - including universities, technology companies and strategic thinkers - is an important card it can play".

    Flexibility and performance

Our Strategic Sourcing solutions support your transition to a more flexible operating model. And with BT Global Services managing your non-core, yet critical processes you can consolidate and converge your IT services to:

    • Improve the speed, responsiveness and quality of the service provided
    • Gain access to the latest technologies which can help to improve performance
    • Free up management time and key resources so you can focus on driving results

Our Strategic Sourcing solutions have enabled:

Suffolk County and Mid Suffolk District Councils to bring transformational change to how they do business for the benefit of their customers/clients. We have put in place an infrastructure that will allow for improvement in corporate performance, but which also lays the foundations for business expansion.

Fiat to improve manufacturing speed and flexibility worldwide, Fiat needed an IT and communications infrastructure that would enable improved efficiency and offer more flexibility and speed of response to help it succeed in competitive markets. BT Global Services manages FIAT networked IT services in over 40 countries. The solution is based on the BT's global MPLS platform, replacing seven independent networks formerly operated by different FIAT Group companies.

Visa to achieve a more efficient and resilient infrastructure, resulting in network availability of 99.98 per cent for global credit card transactions.

Sourcing technology for greater control and reduced costs

Wherever possible, technology should automate business process and enable you to focus on making the IT services you provide more efficient. In reality this is not easy to achieve and too often progress is hampered by operational problems.

At the core of our business is our global 21CN Network which operates in over 170 countries and which enables you to deploy IT services in a way which can improve your businesses' efficiency and effectiveness.

So how do we help you to do this?

First, we are able to Consolidate your network and IT infrastructures removing complexity, duplication and cost. We achieve this by consolidating your multiple voice and data suppliers to one single BT Global Services contract delivering huge efficiencies - Credit Suisse is a great example where we consolidated 250 voice and data suppliers to 1, freeing management time, achieving procurement efficiencies and simplifying the support, maintenance and incident resolution process.

Then we Converge your global infrastructure, by merging your multiple suppliers and networks onto a single BT MPLS network to further reduce costs and improve performance. This creates the "platform" for delivering real-time voice, data and video communications and collaboration, where Quality of Service is critical to performance. Unilever is a good example of where we are delivering MPLS services (Quality of Service) in 100 cities.

Once converged we are now ready to Extend your infrastructures to facilitate collaboration and flexible working. For CaixaGalici, the BT Global Services solution has delivered significant service improvements and productivity through facilities such as teleconferencing and integration of Microsoft Outlook enabling inter-branch teams to collaborate more swiftly and effectively. Telephone costs have also been reduced by routing all internal calls over IP for free, and concentrating all metropolitan calls through a single carrier interconnection.

Enriching more than just your bottom line

With BT Global Services, you can transfer the management and continuous improvement of your networked IT infrastructure and associated assets enabling you to:

    • Decrease expenditure by turning fixed into variable costs, and only pay for the resources you use, removing idle capital and overhead management costs
    • Gain greater control of your budget by lowering investment in your infrastructure
    • Reduce supplier management overheads through single service provider contracts
    • Streamline your infrastructure by reducing duplication and complexity
    • Decrease your energy expenditure and reduce your carbon footprint through converging complex networks and virtualised Data Centres environments
    • Flex usage up or down as business requirements change, enabling you to plan and execute in shorter cycles as markets continue to fluctuate

Our 21CN platform is delivered by a professional services approach to unlock business value.
