Interflora is the world’s largest and most popular flower delivery network with 58,000 florists serving over 140 countries. The company realised that to meet customer expectations it would need to change its order processing application and the enabling infrastructure. To meet business growth ambitions, the new platform would need to be capable of dealing with up to 100,000 transactions per day during the busiest times, with total resilience and reliability.
Interflora selected the Oracle 11i e-business application as the core of its new systems. Following a review of its in-house capabilities, it decided that optimum business continuity would require a partner that could offer application hosting and support, and BT was selected. The BT solution includes the hosting of application and database servers with proactive 24*7*365 monitoring and maintenance. Connectivity between the BT data centre, the Interflora head office and its remote contact centre is achieved through BT EquIP with 2Mbps local access.
This large-scale secure hosting platform has safeguarded business continuity and revolutionised the Interflora business model by speeding the flow of information around the network, allowing member florists to respond instantly to customer requirements. This has already enabled business growth, which has surpassed expectations, and freed up Interflora’s IT team to concentrate on developing rather than running the network.
“We were looking for a UK-based company that could provide us with a scalable integrated hosting and connectivity solution. BT has a good reputation here and its proposition met all of our requirements, which made the decision easy to make.”
Mike Heath, Head of Support, Interflora
