Rede Energia needed to expand its broadband network to connect electricity substations in remote parts of Brazil
BT satellite broadband services connect substations to Rede Energia’s control centre via the BT data centre in São Paulo
The network connects telemetry systems enabling remote management of electricity distribution facilities at reduced cost
Rede Energia is one of the biggest private groups in the Brazilian energy sector. Each year it supplies around sixteen Gigawatt/hours to some 4.2 million customers representing 16 million inhabitants across one third of the country.
Rede Energia mainly purchases electricity from third-party generators for distribution through its regional operating companies. They include Rede Sul – serving the south of Minas Gerais state, the east, centre and west of São Paulo state, and the north of Paraná state; Companhia de Energia Elétrica in the Tocantins state, Centrais Elétricas Matogrossenses, Empresa Energética do Mato Grosso do Sul and Centrais Elétricas do Pará. Directly and indirectly employing over 13,000 people, Rede Energia has been widely acclaimed for improving electricity supply quality in Brazil.
