BT is helping people to get online by bringing the benefits of ICT to disadvantaged communities across the UK
BT has launched a number of initiatives to help people get online and works with charities such as Age UK
BT’s commitment reflects the enormous potential digital inclusion makes for both individuals and society as a whole
Digital technology can improve the lives of people in the most disadvantaged sectors of society. The internet makes goods and services accessible to remote communities and those with mobility problems. Social networking brings human contact to the isolated, such as full-time carers. IT skills can help the long-term unemployed get jobs. And yet more than nine million people in the UK have never used the internet. That can exclude people from opportunities to search for jobs, shop more cheaply and stay in touch with family and friends.
Digital inclusion seeks to help such people by understanding and addressing the financial, physical, and psychological barriers that stand in their way. BT has been helping people to get online since 2002 by bringing the benefits of ICT to disadvantaged communities across the UK. In addition to providing carefully tailored products and services, BT works with charities and others to offer support at both local and national levels.
