BT hothouse identifies early intervention as a way of addressing the growing complex needs problem

Picture this. Tina’s a poor, single mother living in a rundown area with her disabled son, Sam. Everyday life’s a struggle, and it’s getting worse. There’s no relief from Sam’s constant demands, and Tina’s reaching breaking point…

Tina and Sam are typical of the growing category of families with complex needs. A BT hothouse was convened to bring innovation to bear on such seemingly intractable problems. This brought together BT experts with public sector clients and thought leaders, in an unusual combination of competition and collaboration.

The fictional Tina and Sam will never be aware of it, but the best brains are being focused on the problems of people just like them.

“In fact, one of the challenges is to prevent people slipping into the complex needs category in the first place. That’s where this revolutionary approach will both rescue people and save money.”

Louise Duncan, Regional Development Manager for London, A4E
