Introduce service innovation to make Britain’s Armed Forces more agile and efficient, against the most stringent security requirements
The service package includes sixteen business applications, enabling MOD to enjoy enterprise-style functionality with assured security
Supporting some 1,650 MOD sites and more than 230,000 users, the DFTS offers transformational capabilities which could have wider governmental benefits
The Defence Fixed Telecommunications Service (DFTS) Agreement between BT and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) created a single multi-service platform. It replaced nineteen separate legacy networks serving the Royal Navy, the British Army, The Royal Air Force, and the MOD itself. Signed in 1997, the Agreement was extended in 2005 to run through to 2012. The value of the Agreement to the MOD includes savings of around £500 million over its lifetime.
As one of the largest PFI telecommunications undertakings in the world, DFTS now reaches some 1,650 sites. Interconnecting more than 230,000 users across the UK, Germany, and Cyprus, it carries 750,000 calls every single day.
