ITV wanted to increase the flexibility of the contribution network connecting its regional franchises and substantially reduce operating costs
The MPLS network from BT Media and Broadcast incorporates a sophisticated switching and scheduling system to reserve and guarantee bandwidth
The dynamic configuration facilities of the network are allowing ITV to change workflows, distribute production capabilities, and transform its business
ITV plc was formed in February 2004 with the merger of Granada and Carlton Communications and is the UK’s largest commercial television operation. It holds 11 of the fifteen regional Channel 3 (ITV1) licences, which broadcast to approximately 50 million people and account for 88 per cent of Channel 3 viewing and over 90 per cent of Channel 3 advertising revenue.
ITV also owns five leading free-to-air digital channels and has a 40 per cent stake in ITN, which supplies news programming for both the ITV network and various other radio and international television channels. ITV’s production unit is one of Europe’s biggest programme distributors and the largest commercial television production company in the UK. Many of the most successful TV brands are part of the ITV family including Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
