BT acquires network infrastructure from IREN Group in the Emilia region of Italy
DC16-127 (22 March 2016)
With this operation BT improves its ability to serve business customers in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy
BT today announced it is acquiring network assets from IRETI Spa, a company of the Iren Group, in the Emilia region of Italy. The deal is managed through local BT subsidiary BT Enìa Spa, and covers a 1,519 km fibre-based network infrastructure with twenty Points of Presence in the Parma, Piacenza and Reggio Emilia provinces of Italy.
With this operation, BT improves its ability to serve business customers in Emilia Romagna – Italy’s fourth region in GDP. Emilia Romagna has also registered a 4.1% growth rate in exports over the last twelve months. By integrating new regional network capabilities into its global network, BT will be in a better position to support the export-driven growth strategies of its customers based in the region.
Today's announcement will enable organisations based in Emilia Romagna to fully benefit from BT’s global portfolio of networked IT services securely delivered in more than 170 countries through a high performance global network and 48 data centres around the world.
Gianluca Cimini, Country Manager of BT Italy said: “We see networks as a key enabler for the digitisation of industrial processes in Italy and the Italian economy in general. They are also a key vehicle for sharing ideas and innovation. Through this deal with IRETI, BT improves its ability to deliver services in the Emilia region, which has a vibrant entrepreneurial environment, always prone to innovation and exploration of new markets and business models. It again demonstrates how we selectively invest to improve our ability to serve the best Italian companies and public administrations”.
