Background of WEF

The World Economic Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.  The Forum functions all year round and now, via all major social media platforms, 24 hours a day.

Annual Meeting 2015

The theme for the Annual Meeting 2015 is “The New Global Context”

Complexity, fragility and uncertainty are all challenging progress at global, regional and national levels, potentially ending an era of economic integration and international partnership that began in 1989. What is clear is that we are confronted by profound political, economic, social and, above all, technological transformations. They are altering long-standing assumptions about our prospects, resulting in an entirely “new global context” for future decision-making.

BT became a Strategic Partner of the World Economic Forum in 2005 and actively participates in the Annual Meeting, regional summits and events, and a range of communities and initiatives throughout the year.

Title: Gemeinsam gegen die Hacker -Jointly against Hackers (article in german)

Experts in Davos call companies to cooperate. The author, Carsten Knop, quotes experts who claim that companies need to cooperate better and exchange information about hacker attacks. Luis Alvarez, CEO of BT Global Services said: “to establish a secure organisation, you need partnership, competence, and the best hard- and software”. He also says that traditional security concepts are not enough to fight “multi vector hacking attacks”, and that 69 per cent of CEOs still underestimate how important security is. He adds that employees are a risk, not because they are evil but because they do not receive enough training. A security-aware culture needs to come from the top, especially in the context of the new threats in the mobile Internet.
