Our presence
As a leading Asian hub, Hong Kong is the headquarters for BT’s North East Asia operations and is also home to a number of BT Asiapac HQ functions such as Portfolio and Service Design, Professional Services, Global Customer and Service Operations, Legal and Regulatory, and Corporate Governance.
North East Asia is one of the four markets comprising the BT Global Services’ business in Asiapac, employing more than 750 people, (the others being India, Japan, South East Asia and Australasia).
BT’s presence in the Asia Pacific region dates back to 1985, when we first established our office in Hong Kong. With its strong 'rule of law' foundations, open regulatory environment and as the key regional headquarters for many of our global customers, Hong Kong provides an ideal location for BT's Asia Pacific headquarters.
BT opened the Dalian Technology and Service Centre in September 2007, providing round-the-clock multi-lingual support to our customers, many of whom are using local resources who do not necessarily speak English as their primary language. The centre provides North Asian language support for customers in Greater China, Korea, and Japan, and has become a main service support hub for the North East Asia region.
The centre is a multi-discipline establishment and is home to various practices with the BT Group, such as BT Design, BT Operate, software development, and Global Customer Integration service management.
BT operates three customer innovation showcases in North East Asia - in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai. The showcases provide various demonstration pods for customers to experience BT’s solutions and propositions.
In 2007, BT established a China research centre in Shanghai - subsequently moved to Beijing - which is instrumental in boosting our innovation network in Asia and supporting customers in the region. The centre works closely with the BT China team to assist customers and partners in China in harnessing technological innovations and challenges, and shares BT’s global technology and service breakthroughs with Chinese customers, suppliers and partners. The centre works closely with leading Chinese universities including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications.
BT’s access partners in Hong Kong are Wharf T&T, PCCW and Hutchison.
