BT began operations in Luxembourg at the end of the 1990s, mainly serving global customers. From 1996 to 1999 BT expanded its Belgium operations and built its own local fibre network. In 2002 BT opened its international network control centre in Brussels. Since the end of the 90s BT also operates in Luxembourg.
Nowadays the Benelux organisation, established in 2002, operates out of three offices, with two data centres and two network control centres. BT Benelux employs around 2,200 people including over 600 IT-specialists. BT Global Services’ International Management Centre is also located in Brussels. In 2007, BT Benelux announced the acquisition of INS Group S.A., a Belgium-based network and systems integrator.
