I am very excited to have taken on this opportunity within the BT team as of February this year.
Having come from an established environment and 8 good years at Colt I have immersed myself very quickly into the BT machine.
During the past few weeks I’ve spent as much time as possible meeting the team, understanding the existing business dynamic, and reaching out to as many key customers as possible.
What is clear to me is that the BT brand within the voice arena is alive and strong, the business is sound, the network is robust and the team have many excellent relationships across the Globe.
As always, our challenge in what is a highly commoditised market is to drive as much profit out of the business as possible. Termination costs continue to be driven down and with it margins are continually squeezed. Our critical goal for the coming financial year is to work smarter, lean on those crucial relationships and drive growth into emerging markets.
As a business we are fast tracking towards Global IP. BT are moving towards a fully integrated Global IPX network which is gathering pace.
In line with our drive into new territories we are looking to leverage our local GIPX platforms in Miami (US), Singapore and Bahrain in particular. BT is well known for the quality of its IP network and by connecting closer to source our aim is to provide a higher quality service to our end customers and Carriers alike.
I am writing this note with another International Telecoms Week (ITW) conference looming large on the horizon. ITW is a great opportunity to meet established business associates as well as friends and bolster long standing relationships.
I’m looking forward to joining up with our new colleagues from EE and meeting as many of you as possible out in Chicago in May. To book a meeting, write to us.
Head of Sales, Global Wholesale Voice and Roaming, BT
Matt joined BT as the Head of Sales for Global Wholesale Voice and Roaming in February 2016, responsible for managing the entire Voice sales and purchasing activities of Global Wholesale Voice and Roaming around the globe.
Before joining BT, Matt spent 8 years at Colt. During that time he led a global team of experienced sales professionals. He was responsible for new business, as well as recurring sales and purchasing for all Voice termination on the Colt network. During his tenure, the business grew considerably both in revenues and direct cash contribution.
Prior to Colt, Matt spent 5 years at Arbinet where he was responsible for the commercial activities in the EMEA region. During this time, the company undertook a successful IPO on the NYSE. He also spent some time within the purchasing team at Verizon.
Outside of work, Matt likes to spend as much time as possible with his wife and two children. Matt also coaches kids football in the local community and is a qualified FA coach. He also enjoys playing golf and mountain biking.
