DCC and BT orchestrate a unique wine tasting event for oenophiles around the world
DC15-482 (14 October 2015)
Domini Castellare di Castellina leverages cutting edge technology to bring together wine experts across nine global locations
An influential group of wine enthusiasts and professional experts yesterday took part in a unique global wine tasting experience. Alessandro Cellai, oenologist at Domini Castellare di Castellina (DCC), one of the leading Italian winemakers, used BT’s collaboration solutions and global network capabilities to conduct a professional worldwide tasting of two of its most prestigious Tuscan wines.
The event took place in four continents simultaneously, allowing attendees to appreciate the winery’s style and composition and compare vintages. They tasted together two top wines in the global rankings; I Sodi di San Niccolò and Baffonero from DCC, six vintages each. They shared observations in real time and discussed a wide range of points of view with peers from different parts of the globe. As a special treat, DCC brought in from its own stock the 1986 vintage of I Sodi di San Niccolò, the first Italian wine in the TOP 100 of Wine Spectator from a vintage that is no longer commercially available.
BT’s Customer Innovation Showcases in Milan, Madrid, Munich, London, New York, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Johannesburg and New Delhi provided the high tech facilities for this ground-breaking global and digital experience.
This initiative leverages BT’s best collaboration solutions, and illustrates our commitment to support ambitious global brands as they design innovative solutions and embrace continuous transformation and operational improvements. Such creative use of our technology helps bring to life the quality, innovation, local tradition, craftsmanship, professionalism and attention to detail for which those brands deserve to be known all around the world. We call that the Art of Connecting.”
- Gianluca Cimini, CEO of BT Italy
Paolo Panerai, DCC owner commented: “Since this idea was born we have been very curious to see this global vertical wine tasting taking place. This is the first time that a vertical wine tasting has been held in nine different places of the world, at the same time through high definition video conferencing. And it's a vertical tasting of two of the most celebrated Italian wines. Wine, in our culture, has the great power to bring people together, create connections. Today, we've been celebrating this at the highest level thanks to our partner BT, which allowed us to access leading edge collaboration platforms and was moved by our same ambition and drive for result. We are very happy, we are also a little bit proud.”
For this event, DCC leveraged BT’s high definition video conferencing solutions and BT’s global customer innovation showcases together with the performance and reliability of its global network.

This is the story of a travel through the wine of two great regions of Italy and of the world. A story that starts from Tuscany, from its countryside designed by sharecropping, and arrives to the extreme borders of Sicily, at a crossroads between land and sea, and the many different cultures that have passed through.
Domini Castellare di Castellina is the brand that combines four wineries different in their history, size and geographical location, but connected by a production style devoted to excellence as internationally recognized. “Castellare di Castellina” in the heart of Chianti Classico, “Rocca di Frassinello”, in the Tuscan Maremma between Scansano and Bolgheri born in joint venture with Domain Baron De Rotschild Lafite, “Feudi del Pisciotto”, in the heart of Sicily, a few kilometers from Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina, and “Gurra di Mare” on the beach of Menfi-Porto Palo, the ancient port of Selinunte, in one of the most signifi cant place in the history of Sicily.
