BT Eastern Mediterranean established a regional head office and direct sales operations in the early 2000s. We focus on providing services to homegrown companies that are expanding globally as well as multinational companies that operate locally. BT helps customers improve their national and global competitiveness by building solutions to meet their individual needs. Our customers include multinational companies and enterprises, as well as other carriers and resellers. The regional head office in Turkey provides operational support either directly, or through our partners, to Israel, Greece, Cyprus and Malta.
BT established our Sub-Saharan African headquarters in South Africa in 1992. We are a world leader in the design and operation of mission-critical networked IT services that support the core processes of the world's leading companies, telecommunications providers and governments.
BT leads yet another virtual masterpiece, using interactive video conferencing, reaching over 100 journalists and analysts across Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa region. What we do locally in Middle East and Africa
BT has been serving customers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for more than 30 years. In 2006, Dubai was established as our sales and technical support hub for MENA, a region stretching from Morocco at its western end to Pakistan in the east. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, BT operates through BT Al Saudia, a joint venture with HRM Prince Dr. Abdulaziz bin Sattam bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and a key partner to BT's strategy in the region.
BT Radianz service was launched in the UAE in 2007 to capitalise on Dubai's ambition to become one of the leading global financial centres. Today, more than 200 sites are connected to the shared services platform across the UAE and other Gulf Countries (GCC), including major international brokerages and banks as well as local exchanges (NASDAQ Dubai and Qatar Exchange, for example.
In 2008 BT opened EBTIC its Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi in partnership with Etisalat and Khalifa University.
In February 2012 BT announced a series of investments into the region by adding more people on the ground, further strengthening its infrastructure in the region and rolling out new products and services from its global portfolio.
BT has been successful in proactively supporting the development of its major multinational customers and is helping the fast-growing regional airlines industry expanding globally.
More than 250 people support BT customers in the region which includes companies like Etisalat, Viva Bahrain, Unilever, Pepsico, Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways, NBAD, HBL and many others. BT has established relationships with more than 90 per cent of local and national operators across the region.

BT Customer Innovation Showcase launch in Dubai
On Monday 31st of March 2014 BT celebrated the official opening of its Innovation Showcase in Dubai in the presence of HM General Consul Edward Hobert, Luis Alvarez, CEO BT Global Services, Steve Masters VP Innovation BT Global Services and Wael el Kabbany, VP Middle East North Africa and Turkey.
This event marked a really important milestone for BT in the investment plan that we recently announced, but also provided our customers a unique and interactive experience of our services.
Our local offerings
In the MENA region, BT has specialist skills in transport and logistics, energy, financial services, media and broadcast, and telecommunications supporting both local companies with global ambitions, multinationals with local or regional needs, and all major telecommunication service providers with whom BT has carrier consulting and broadcasting relationships. BT also reaches customers through various strategic partnerships across the region.
BT supplies a core set of networked IT services such as managed global IP services, unified communications and convergence services, managed security and risk resilience services, managed call centre services, sector-specific professional services, and outsourcing to multinational organisations and international institutions.
What we do locally in Eastern Mediterranean
BT's network infrastructure is designed to ensure that the client's business-critical applications perform as effectively as possible. BT's global MPLS network also extends into Turkey with two nodes in Istanbul.
BT is one of the leading providers in the development and operation of virtual private networks (VPN) based on IP technology. With 7 x 24 Help Desk and experienced personnel BT in Turkey is the Satellite Center of Excellence. BT's experienced field personnel and partners enable the company to serve the networked ICT service requirements of both global and local companies.
Today, BT in Eastern Mediterranean region is a fully integrated networked IT services company with sales and marketing, network operations and data centre, 7*24 help desk, teleport infrastructure and field personnel.
What we do locally in Sub-Saharan Africa
Our business strategy for Sub-Saharan Africa is quite clear and twofold, providing best-of-breed managed network services for multinational companies operating in Africa, and providing expertise to the national operators to improve their retail and domestic market offerings to their respective citizens. BT has experience across all industry sectors but has unrivalled expertise in financial services, oil and gas, government, healthcare, media and broadcast, and transport and logistics.
BT is recognised as a leading provider of converged network services and we aim to help customers get the most out of communications technology by providing tailored solutions that are easy to use. Of the 53 countries in Africa, BT has registered entities in 32.
We have over 120 ICT (Information and Communications Technology) professionals and serve more than 300 blue-chip customers in the region, including Anglo American, Unilever, Thomson Reuters and Sasol. BT works with some of the world's most respected organisations, such as Accenture, Dimension Data, Microsoft, Avaya and Nortel Networks to deliver services to our customers. BT is also a gold certified partner of Cisco Systems.
BT's formula for success in global economies is the ability to be a global company that understands and embraces the local business environment. BT South Africa has entered into an agreement with investment holding company Sekunjalo Investments Limited, under which Sekunjalo will become a 30 per cent shareholder in BT's South African business. This partnership is a demonstration of BT's long-term commitment to South Africa and the broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) agenda.
BT's Global Media Network has extended to South Africa and Nigeria; this enables the delivery of high quality realtime video content between South Africa, Nigeria and popular media hubs worldwide, offering a high performance and cost-effective alternative to satellite connectivity.
BT has also deployed the BT global voice platform in South Africa, providing carrier-grade global voice services for customers in the region.
This investment in technology is mirrored in our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility: In 2007, we announced our development partnership with Unicef, committing R20m to enhance the quality of education for children from some of South Africa's poorest socio-economic backgrounds.
