Smart Metering Key Infrastructure
Smart Meter Key Infrastructure Service
The Smart Meter network roll-out aims to install smart meters in every home in England, Wales and Scotland.
This smart meter network will transform how energy is supplied and give consumers greater control over their energy use.
By 2020, 53 million smart meters are expected to be fitted in homes and small non domestic properties across Great Britain. Smart meters will enable consumers to track their spending on their energy use by receiving accurate rather than estimated readings.
The Data and Communications Company (DCC), which is building and will run the infrastructure necessary to support the roll out, has awarded BT the contract to deliver the Smart Meter Key Infrastructure service required to support the smart metering network.
BT’s Smart Meter Key Infrastructure will provide a high performance security service with the flexibility and scalability to meet the requirements of the national rollout.
The first Smart Meter Key Infrastructure Test Certificates are expected to be issued on 15 June 2015 and the first Production Certificates in January 2016
