Applications

BT Trace for Retail combines RFID technology and wireless connectivity in a solution that allows retailers to accurately track and monitor every item from the point it arrives at a warehouse/distribution centre to when the customer takes it home. Merchandise can be fitted with RFID tags at any point along the supply chain. Increasingly, tags are fitted at the point of manufacture, which has the added benefit of enabling the retailer to track inventory throughout the supply chain.

Using portable RFID readers, employees in the stockroom can scan incoming items – at speeds of up to 12-15,000 items per hour – and the data is transmitted to a central inventory repository. Employees can also use portable readers for rapid stocktaking on the shop floor.

Store managers have easy to use mobile dashboard devices, which alert them when stock needs replenishing, and also provide information such as the velocity of specific items to help forecasting.

BT Trace for Retail also provides a platform for extended applications. For example, theft and fraud prevention, plus faster checkout, and interactive customer tools can improve service and productivity.
