 Make security everyone's responsibility

Thanks to the digital transformation we’ve seen over the past few years - think mobile phones, tablets, reliance on digital technology - people are the new perimeter when it comes to security and everybody has a role to play to safeguard the organisation.

Many security breaches are down to individuals inadvertently giving a cyber criminal entry to the network. It could be a link on an email, a visit to an unsecured webpage, or even leaving an unsecured mobile device in a café. And this problem has been exacerbated by the fact that the line between professional and private devices is staring to blur.

So you need to emphasise this to everyone in your organisation. Let them know that cyber security needs to be as important to them as physical security, and that they’re all responsible and accountable - from the CEO to the mail clerk.

A good place to start is making sure that nobody uses the same password for everything, and that everyone knows how to create a strong password.
