New taskforce to help organisations harness the power of software-defined solutions for the cloud era

BT today announced the launch in the Benelux of a professional services taskforce that will help businesses and government institutions take advantage of software-defined solutions for the cloud era.

Software-defined solutions (SDS) are applicable to data centres, networks and storage. They replace IT infrastructure hardware with software that provides the same functions. Such software-based systems are much easier to re-configure and update. They bring lower costs, improved security and faster innovation cycles when testing and deploying applications.

BT’s new Benelux practice will provide consultancy, design and implementation of end-to-end solutions, helping organisations make the most of these new technologies and integrating them with existing systems and a wide range of cloud services.

Fabrice De Windt

For many of our customers, deploying new services in their legacy IT infrastructure can be slow, rigid and inefficient. Software-defined is all about giving them the power to radically simplify their data centres and networks, making these easier to manage and allowing applications to be deployed in minutes, rather than days or weeks.”
- Fabrice De Windt, CEO BT Benelux

De Windt continues: “We have always worked to add intelligence to our network and data centre services. This was highlighted again by our recent Cisco ACI certification[1] in the Benelux. Software-defined technologies are all about using that intelligence to simplify the management of our customers’ IT infrastructure. They also pave the way for easy integration of private and public clouds with enterprise applications. What we call the ‘Cloud of Clouds’[2].”

Earlier this year, BT announced Connect Intelligence IWAN, a managed service that uses a hybrid environment and managed Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technology to enable businesses to automatically route and optimise network traffic and gain visibility of applications performance without spending more on bandwidth. And last January, the Experton group named BT as a “Leader” for software-defined networking.

In the Benelux, BT offers an extensive networked IT services portfolio designed for multinationals, government agencies and local organisations with complex demands. Its BT Advise teams of professional service consultants provide consulting, integration, staffing and managed services through global knowledge centres, organised around core competencies, including security, unified communications and cloud.
