How cutting costs could close doors.

Three in four workers within large organisations say that their employer tries to cut the cost of smartphone and table usage. But this isn’t a case of ‘take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves’. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Spending time trying to cut smartphone usage to save a few pennies is often a false economy — one which actually does the opposite for your business and costs you far more in lost productivity, wasted time and missed opportunities.

The smartphone’s an essential, not an extra.

This type of cost cutting can stem from the view that mobile usage is a business extra, not an essential. But almost half of office workers use their smartphone for most of their work calls — suggesting mobile devices are vital to the modern employee.

And beyond calls, one in five workers says that they regularly run out of mobile data because they use this for work-related tasks. So, for many businesses, especially those trying to reduce costs, it’s worth asking whether lack of access to data on the move is limiting your employees’ productivity.

Cost management is key.

While it’s important to manage mobile costs, IT decision makers and the organisations they work for, need to balance cost-cutting with an understanding of how much flexible working is worth. And they need to do this for both employee productivity and satisfaction.

As we explored in earlier articles, flexible working is incredibly important to office workers and can also have a significant positive impact on workplace productivity. So it’s important that what’s best for your books now, matches what’s best for your business in the future.
