Managing director, banking and financial services

Bernadette Wightman is managing director of our banking and financial services vertical.

Bernadette Wightman was appointed to the role as managing director, banking and financial services in April 2019. She reports to our CEO.

Her role focuses on building and growing relationships with customers in the banking and financial services industries. She is also responsible for our regional activities in Asia, Middle East and Africa. 

Bernadette joined BT in September 2018 as managing director, resources, manufacturing and logistics. 

With over 25 years’ experience in IT & telecoms, Bernadette joined us from Cisco, where she was most recently president and CEO of Cisco Canada. Her responsibilities included sales, both corporate & public sectors, systems engineering, relationship management, operations, market strategy, policy leadership and influence, business development and brand management.

In her 19 years with Cisco, Bernadette served as the general manager for Cisco in Russia, Ukraine, and the Commonwealth of Independent State countries, where she led the team in a challenging geo-political landscape and built a trusted business platform for the future. She also led Channel and Commercial sales for Cisco’s Emerging Theatre, the largest Cisco Commercial theatre outside of the Americas, spanning 84 countries and over 10,000 partners. Her Cisco experience also includes various roles in the UK and Ireland including leading the Partner Organisation, and working with BT.

Bernadette has been widely recognised by her peers throughout the industry including being named Business Leader of the Year by CWT Every Women in Technology awards, Computer Weekly’s 25 Most Influential Women in UK IT, and Debrett’s list of 500 most influential people in Britain 2014. Her focus on culture has resulted in industry-wide recognition including best place to work awards. 

Bernadette is passionate about the development of talent and a champion for inclusion and diversity initiatives, including co creating a programme consisting of workshops, mentoring, peer networking and group support, which over 1,000 women have benefitted from globally.
