Adopt a service-centric view for security with a focus on transparency and automation.

Yes, technology is, and will always be, important to security. But equally important, and often overlooked, is the service side of security.

For security to truly integrate with an organisation, it needs to be treated as a service. And, like any service, this means transparency — in input and output, cost, implications and the efficiency that can be achieved.

It’s also got to be easy to use. Give your people a security solution that plugs effortlessly into other products and has a simple interface and you’ll increase adoption and reduce resistance. And this means that your organisation will be more prepared for the next attack. Give people something that takes effort to bolt onto legacy systems and lacks transparency, and they simply won’t use it.

Basically, your security should meet the fundamental principles of service design.
