BT’s ‘Alexander Black’ concept stores help retailers meet the needs of digital consumers

BT’s store experience demonstrates the digital possible to retailers

This rise in customer expectations is driving retailers’ investments in digital technology for physical stores, which still account for around 90 per cent of retail sales. With Alexander Black, we aim to show retailers  how to meet the needs of the digital consumer and in the process drive operational efficiency, reduce cost and increase sales.

Alexander Black features many practical solutions that retailers can introduce to transform customer and employee experience and improve operational efficiency. It shows how integrating digital solutions can deliver a more immersive and engaging store environment for customers, helping boost loyalty and grow sales.

Take a look at some of the solutions.

Alexander Black retail experience: Check in

Your shoppers begin the retail experience when they enter the store. If it’s their first time in the store, they simply log in with a smart phone using QR or NFC codes, and a personal profile can be built to give each shopper immediate saving coupons. With each subsequent visit, the shopper is recognized, and more information is captured about preferences and buying behaviour.

Alexander Black: Intelligent signage

Intelligent signage uses facial recognition to identify key characteristics about the shopper, such as gender and age range, and display items that the shopper would most likely to be interested in. Paired with other technologies that track your inventory and the shopper’s behaviours, BT helps you adjust in-store advertising and promotions that quickly drive shoppers towards merchandise you want to show them.

Alexander Black: Bluetooth beacons

Beacons provide a smart way to showcase sets of merchandise that can be purchased together, and help guide buyers to the merchandise location in your store. Using a smart phone, the buyer can immediately see details about all the items your mannequin is wearing, learn where to find them in store, and even purchase them directly through their device. BT helps you combine signage and beacon technologies to make shopping easier for consumers and build in-store promotions.

Alexander Black: RFID reader

In-store RFID readers help buyers obtain more information about accessories and product options, freeing up storage space for you, and increasing customer satisfaction for them. For example, by featuring RFID tagged shoe samples, the buyer can try on and assess products in store, then find alternate colours, sizes and availability online. BT helps you develop strategies to highlight your available inventory, giving smaller boutique settings the same selling power as flagship locations.

Alexander Black: Intelligent fitting room

Intelligent fitting rooms give you more selling opportunities and your customer more options. This technology facilitates communication between the buyer and the sales associate from the fitting room, allowing more visibility into product options and inventory. Your sales associates get credit for in-store support, even when the items are bought online.

Alexander Black: Digital signage and music

Enhance your customers’ overall experience with customizable and centrally manged digital signage and music. BT helps you manage licensing and regulatory issues, manage content centrally for multiple stores, and quickly change promotions based on your current inventory availability. The audio watermarks access smartphone microphones and can send customers offers in real time.

Alexander Black: Interactive Touch table

Interactive tables provide a good way to link complementary products and drive higher sales. They Provide detailed product information and instructions, show the buyer what other products can be bought to enhance their purchase, and free up sales associates through self-help techniques. With RFID technology embedded in the products, BT helps you link what’s available in inventory with what’s on shelves.

Alexander Black: Ethical sourcing tags

With information comes an informed shopper. What better way to show them your company’s dedication to issues such as ethically sourced products than by sharing more information about origins? QR tags help you build brand loyalty and customer engagement.

Alexander Black: Fling screens

Fling capabilities allow your sales associates to project detailed information about store items onto a large digital signage environment using a tablet or iPad. They can show customers detailed options and features about items present in the store and help identify other buying options, bringing the in-store and online experience together. This is a great feature for a boutique that only carries a small number of samples, but wants to give customers more choices.

Alexander Black: Shelf talkers

Shelf Talkers can be used in many ways to increase information about products for consumers. Simply touching them with a smart phone allows buyers to learn about the product make-up, pricing, options and more. This frees up sales associates time and allows you to integrate promotions, offers and on-device shopping.

Alexander Black: Mobile point of sale

BT helps you bring all your in-store technologies together by integrating on-line sensibility with the in-store experience. With BT Trace giving you visibility into your entire inventory process – from sourcing, to warehousing and distribution – you have a 360 degree view of your products. In-store and online data then helps you marry your knowledge with your customer’s preferences. Mobile point-of-sale technologies help you bring it all together to offer the ultimate buying experience.
