BT compliance team in the Americas earns CIPP/US and CCEP certifications
(1 July 2015)
CCEP and CIPP certifications are global standards for privacy, compliance and ethics professionals
BT has announced the latest group of expert compliance professionals in the company to earn Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) credentials through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) through the Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics (SSCE). BT employees who have completed these certifications join more than 12,000 professionals worldwide, who’ve attained at least one privacy or compliance certification.
Both the CCEP and CIPP certifications are global standards for privacy, compliance and ethics professionals. These standards were created in response to the changing landscape of regulation and ever-growing high-risk environment corporations now find themselves in. Supporting compliance professionals in completing these certifications is one of many protocols BT has in place to ensure its arming customers with dedicated team members who possess the tools and training needed to take on shifting regulations, while also better assessing and mitigating enterprise networking risks.
The CIPP certification was developed and launched by the IAPP with leading subject matter experts, and demonstrates a strong foundation in U.S. private-sector privacy laws and regulations and understanding of the legal requirements for the responsible transfer of sensitive personal data to/from the U.S., the EU and other jurisdictions. The CCEP certification was launched – along with several other compliance certifications – by the SCCE to better regulate the practice of compliance and ethics across various industries and specialty areas.
“I’m very pleased with BT’s growing roster of CIPP and CCEP certified professionals,” said Bas Burger, President, BT in the Americas. “It is a reflection of how seriously BT takes issues around privacy and compliance, not only for our own needs but for our customers as well. Having our compliance team knowledgeable about the nuts and bolts in this area allows us to have more valuable conversations with our customers through various channels around risk balancing and compliance. This added knowledge and expertise also allows us to continue to develop innovative products and services that truly get to the heart of our clients’ needs.”
BT has challenged the CCS employees to take the exams for either a CCEP or CIPP certification in the next two years. Thus far the team is well on track to meet this goal with three new Certified Compliance and Ethics Professionals (CCEPs), three certified in information privacy, four achieving new ITIL expertise levels, some pursuing records management certificates, PMP certification and further privacy and security certifications.
With the enforcement of compliance regulations being advanced worldwide, it’s necessary for our employees to enhance their skills and knowledge to meet customers’ needs,” said Janet Himmelreich, head of BT Global Services Client Compliance Services Center of Excellence (CCS). “This is why we’ve developed a robust training program for the client facing compliance team, partially in response to findings from our customers that we must be able to demonstrate subject matter expertise other than through on-the-job training.”
