David Wilks
Drone Lead
David is the lead on drones within our Applied Research unit at Adastral Park.
David has been with us for over 35 years and has a background in telecommunications engineering and computing.
During his career at BT, David’s been responsible for the service management systems that monitor and maintain our critical nation communications and data centre infrastructure.
David has built and designed drone-based systems for over 15 years and is now following his 40-year passion for aviation and radio-controlled modelling by aiming to become a leading expert in Unmanned Aviation Vehicle systems (UAVs).
David holds a private pilot licence, is a commercial drone operator and heads up BT’s UAV based research. He has strong links to industry and leading UK universities and was instrumental in BT winning funding for Future Flight from UKRI.
